Alan, List,

What kind of seal are you contemplating? In 1998 I had the gearbox front
cover machined out and an O-ring inserted to seal on the first motion
shaft. I have had no problem whatsoever with several thousand miles of
driving. I have inquired but never really received a solid answer as to
the downside of doing this. Perhaps your question will promote a good
discussion.

When I was younger, I could remember anything whether it had happened or
not. But now my facilities are decaying and soon I shall be so I cannot
remember anything but the things that never happened. - Mark Twain
