When my wife and I went there with our children in 1983 we stayed at
The Pastoria in Leicester Square.
At the time, it was a modest, but comfortable, old-style hotel.
Based on a quick google search, it
looks like it is part of the Radisson chain now.  From the pictures it
appears to have been modernized a bit.

In any event, it is within a short walk from Trafalgar Square and the
National Gallery as well as several
underground stations.
