[Healeys] Petroflex Fuel Line

The new flexible rubber/stainless wrap fuel line I recently purchased is
a bit shorter than the previous one, but still too long to route from
the hard line to the front carb without a large 'S turn.' Can these be
safely--and 'cleanly'--cut or otherwise shortened without damaging
them? I'm thinking: a) measure twice, b) wrap the point of the cut with
masking tape, c) cut (once) with air cutoff tool or ?. Anyone done this?

The old line, also Petroflex, while a bit less flexible than the new
one, was in good enough shape to keep using, but I figured overhaul time
was a good time to replace all rubber components. Also, the jet
diaphragms in my HD8s were likewise stiffer than new ones, and showed
some minute cracks, but were otherwise serviceable. Both components
have at least 20 years and 70-80K miles of service, on mostly
California--i.e. ethanol spiked--gas. The radiator hoses were like new
and could have been reused as well.
