The silicon gasket is worth it.

=20

Use RTV to adhere the cork, or silicon gasket, to the rocker cover. Use =
non-hardening Hylomar for gasket to block. I did that with both gasket =
types and did not have any leaks. I currently have a silicon gasket =
installed. I have removed the valve cover several times in the last ten =
years and reinstalled it without removing it from the valve cover. I =
only used Hylomar at the block.

=20

I believe the silicon gasket for the alloy cover is flat on both sides =
because the alloy cover is machined flat, but I am not certain.

=20

Also, as other listers have stated, be certain the steel valve cover =
sets absolutely flat. I had to work the perimeter with metal working =
tools to flatten it. I also had to twist it so is would rest flat.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm leaving my cork gasket on for now but =
will go with silicone when the cork gets old. The key is using red RTV =
sealant. Also the Moss silicone gasket appears to be made by Alexander =
Racing Enterprises.

I have the excellent Ray Juncal rocker cover with a cork gasket. I =
noticed that Moss sells a silicone gasket. So 2 questions for the =
list:

1. Is the silicone gasket worth it?

2. Moss has 2 versions, one for the original rocker cover and one for =
"alloy covers". No other explanation. Anyone have an opinion on which =
to get?

Thanks.
