| Phoenix, Silver Crown Cars; 100 laps, 100 miles Usta be 50.
They announced that Gus Hoffman, long time car owner from Indiana passed
away last week at 90. He always ran the #69 cars which Rich Vogler,
Steve Butler and many other greats drove. God rest him. The 69 was racin
today -apparently fielded now by his son. Hope it keeps on running for
many years to come -in Gus honor.
....and we got Green!
They just gave us about a lap and a half ridin on top the roll bar in that
camera. Thankfully they dint do much talkin while that 358 was singin
-a beautiful song. I thought the thing sounded rich, and wasnt at all
smooth on the transition on and off the gas. -But still, a SWEET sound!
Gawd what I wouldnt do to drive one of these cars. To me, they are THE
quintessential RACE CAR in its purest form.
Oh oh! big wreck turn 2: Jim Childers. Hes ok
restart.
Another wreck two or three laps later! Hit in the wall HARD: Brad
Noffsinger & Billy Puterbaugh jr....
Noffsinger ain t movin then, he appears to be moving around is the
first report..... Hes got a broken left wrist.
Restart. These guys are as close together as the NASCAR cabs. HOT race.
Yeley is up to second (lap 31 or 32 ?) evverbody a car length apart.
whoa daddy.
Oh oh a spin: Brian Paulus from PA.
Restart. Boy, these guys are sure racin close.
Gary Heber backs the BUCKS COUNTY car into the wall- but sofffftly. Hell
prolly get to restart. These thing carry a LOT of fuel for a 100 which
weighs a lot at first, then it continually makes the car weigh less and
less. A large change percentage wise cxause the whole enchelada dont
weigh an awful lot to begin with.
Restart. 10 laps to go and its annybodys race !
Tracy Hines and Paul White bump wheels in the 4th corner White got
sideways. Hines hitem from the lower left corner. Hey they was
RACIN!
restart: Paul White leading a Texas boy- dont know much about him.
White wins: with a .3206 second margin of victory over Dave Steele.
Nice close race. Dam nice.
-Saw these guys run in person last year at Nazareth -Met my hero Jack
Hewett there, and made my day. Only time Ive had the chance to seeem live.
Gonna happen again someday too,-only next time ON DIRT -where they belong.
Mebbe Ill get to go seeem at Terre Haute -or Knoxville?
Next race on ESPN 2 will be:
May 12 the Coca Cola 100 from IRP -be there or be square!
This has been a totally dis-jointed race report from DIRTY DOUG news
service
