The pits are closed to spectator vehicles. You must have a crew or official
staff windshield pass. best bet is to bring a bicycle. Motor bikes are not
recommended. Plan on walking a lot as it's easier in the long run to see
everything.

As far as the heat, some of us have seen it close to 120 deg. on the salt.
Sun screen, at least 45 and as you stated the salt refllects so loose shorts
allow for burns close to the family jewels. Under your chin, ears any thing
not protected can get burnt. Black shoes turn into ovens on the feet. A cold
wet towel around the neck it a great help and cooling to the body. Been
there, been burnt. A good straw hat that lets a little air in is a god
thing. Coffee and other caffinated drinks dehydrate, Water is your best
friend.
