Interesting thoughts Neil. And I'm with you on the theory part, but as Dan
and Glen have mentioned the bulk of the proven evidence is in favor of the
narrow tires. I have to admit that both times I've spun its been on wide
(sort of) tires, although I'm still not convinced it's the tires fault. Have
often wanted to experiment with different tire concepts, wide treaded (rain)
tires being one of them, but it seems that every time I might have a chance
something comes up and I miss my opportunity.

Another interesting twist here is that some of the M/T tires are relatively
wide (9" section with) and flat on the contact patch. Yet some guys like
Howard Nafzger and Jim Dincau are quite happy with the results from these
tires. So is there a magic width that we shouldn't go over in tire width? 9"
vs. 12"? Calvin Smith has run the 13" Talladega's at over 260 MPH without
any problems. I believe Don Stringfellow has too.
