new "raw" block-- before machining-- and then carefully stress relieve it in
a furnace.  THEN machine it.)
I think about a year ago someone pointed us to a web site that had pictures of
engine blocks being prepped for machining by sticking a bunch of them in some
kind of sonic machine to relieve the stress.
