Hi guys,

Following on the cooling / thermostat / temp indication theme, I put in a
borg warner temp sender this afternoon, and my system to indicate
temperature still doesn't work. When I ground the wire that runs to the
gauge, it pegs the gauge, but plug it in to the sender and nothing. Ran it
until the electric fan cut on and still no temperature indication. Any
ideas ? I've about had it.

On the positive side, I'm out driving my car again - got a muffler put on
yesterday, so now it's acceptable to the neighbors. It is really the most
marvelous experience driving around with Andrew after we've worked on this
project for 15 months. He's delighted and can't wait to take it to school
and show it to his friends. After driving MGB's since 1977 I am utterly
amazed at how powerful and responsive the car is. It's a rubber bumper that
we lowered, and we haven't put on the anti sway bars yet, but it still
handles remarkably well. Only 195 miles so far, we're keeping it under
3000 RPM for 500 miles, then we'll spank it. Cant wait for that day !

The dying when hot and hard starting problem that we were having a couple
of weeks ago seems to be gone. I retarded the timing and leaned the
mixture and that made a big difference, both in apparent hot running, and
in smooth running.

Could a poorly grounded fuel pump have caused the dying problem rather than
temperature ? The lights / fuel pump ground was bad, and now that's fixed.

Lastly, the starting problem was apparently due to flooding. When cold,
very slow depressing of the accelerator gives a good start, but when hot,
the only technique that works is not to touch the throttle until it starts.
 We're learning and enjoying !!

Safety fast,

Rick
