| Rob, Back firing is generally an indication of a lean fuel mixture. This could be the fuel mixture of the SU carbs or possibly an intake vacuum leak. Try enriching the carbs a little at a time and see if that doesn't get rid of the backfire. To check for a vacuum leak, spray carb cleaner around all the surfaces of the intake manifold while the car is running. A decrease in the RPMs would indicate a leak, Then try tightening up the offending area. Safety Fast! Randy |
