I don't know much about what factory air was available for MGB's,
since I have only pre-1963 cars. However, there is a fellow in
Dallas, Texas that has developed a way to install A/C in MGA's and
MGB's. He has installed the system in several cars, all of which
have run successfully for many miles. He himself has an A coupe
with the system, which he drives regularly and comfortably in the
Texas heat. The A installations has done have typically used a B
engine and several other modifications to improve cooling and
horsepower to drive the compressor. The B installation isn't as
neat, because the A/C vent is one long piece which can't accommodate
the console in the B. It is placed on the passenger side of the car
and the adjustable vanes are pointed to the driver. In the B
installation I saw this on it worked very well despite the hokey
sounding nature of it. The system puts out a lot of cold air, which
is more than sufficient for the small interior of an MG. The
fellow, Art Ziesk, is pretty well known in MG circles and has a shop
in Dallas called Automotive Specialties. I don't have the phone
number with me tonight, but you can get it from information or if
you e-mail me I would be glad to send it to you. Tell him I sent
you.
Bud
