Dennis,
before you put race brakes on your car, you might want to find out if your
brakes are working like they should. You could drive someone elses car, or
have an LBC shop check them.
They might be perfectly fine, of course the brakes on an MG don't feel
like the ones in a Honda. Since your wife drove it only for the second
time, maybe she just needs to get used to them.

By no means take my advice as an encouragement to just getting used to
inferior brakes, do make sure they are working as they should.
