What was shaping up as an excellent race meeting the other weekend was
prematurely halted with the arrival of the police.

The event - named the Bol d'Or provides 80 minutes of track time in which,
beginning with a le Mans style start competitors must complete a nominated
number of laps into which must be factored 3 pit stops requiring changing
of wheels, removal and changing of spark plugs etc, all with tools carried
in the car.

Competitors numbered about 60 and included an MG J type special, TB's,
TC's, TF's and an L2 Magna along wih Aston Martins, Bugattis, Amilcars and
several specials to name a few.

The day's racing was two-thirds complete when along come the boys in blue
and, notwithstanding the event having the approval of the Confederation of
Australian Motor Sport and the local council who not only made the track
available but sponsored the event to the tune of $6000 the police found
what they were looking for.

An error in the paperwork which had approved a single car event and, as
each event had about 20 cars competing, the event was closed down.

The real reason I reckon was noise. The track is situated in a beautiful
mountain setting in the form almost of a natural ampitheatre and as
suburbia has expanded beyond the traditional city limits it has finally
caught up with this track.

Those that would rather watch events on TV than participate are likely to
have struck another blow to our sport.
