Well, my father took my 'B to work yesterday (I needed his truck), and
noticed I have a worn rear wheel bearing. I thought it was a "normal"
noise. When I checked over my 'B last month before I put 'er on the road,
I did it by myself. Guess I missed a few things. After jacking up the
rear, we carefully compared the two rear ends. ( Turns out he had replaced
the left rear bearing when he brought the car back from purchasing it in
florida,6 years ago) The right one was definitely gone. I wasn't
listening/looking for the problem when I "checked over" the car last
month.

While the car was jacked up (and supported with jack-stands!), he
checked out the driveshaft u-joints and pinion bearing (tube-type axle).
I was aware of a looseness of the pinion bearing, and figured this was my
next "major" job. Turns out my u-joints could use replacing too. one of
the arms of the front u-joint has longitudinal movement (that's the best
way I can describe it) , which my explain the randomness of my vibration
at highway speeds, by depending on the position of this u-joint, could be
throwing my drive-shaft out of balance!

Hopefully replacing the rear wheel bearing (another part I will be
"borrowing" from my father's stash),oil seal, u-joints, and then
balancing
of the drive shaft (if necessary), will once and for all fix my vibration!
(knock , knock, knock (on wood).)

The pinion bearing will have to wait...

Wish me luck!

Oh, I mustn't forget the damn starter solinoid too....before my 1600 mile
trip to CT and back, which is in two weeks!!
