This method of wiring does have one big advantage - if you ever do have an
electrical fire, you will know in advance where it started. There will be
more resistance in a joint like this than in the rest of the circuit put
together. I strongly reccomend using solder.

There are two aspects to any electrical connection - mechanical strength and
electrical continuity. A connection made as you described scores very poorly
on both counts.
