The easiest is to order a new set of points for a few dollars, and
rebuild the pump yourself! After a few years, the points on the older
pumps would burn out. This requires you to get out of your car tap
on the pump in front of the right rear wheel in order to get going again.
More recent pumps used a diode or capacitor across the contacts to
limit arcing. I did buy, once, an after-market SU look-alike that used
sealed reed contacts and a magnet to actuate them.
If you open your pump and find no diode nor capacitor, it's easy to
get one at the local radio shack and install it.
You'll have the double advantage of having a working pump that is
original equipment, as well as a more profound understanding of your MG!
