three parts to this:-

1)forget the o/d on 3rd - its basically about the same ratio as 4th
2)think of 4th o/d as a fifth gear - your instincts and the engine revs
will tell you whats right - both up and down
3)do NOT declutch - up or down, it isnt necessary

John Twist wrote an excellent article in "the Driver" two months ago -
does anyone have it transcribed? its a great read but i dont have the
time to type it out right now.
