OK, 

  I was hoping this wouldn't happen.  Do your waveforms take into
account the diffs in the lags across the two reactances?  Also, how
about the directions in which the primary and secondary windings are
wound?  Not arguing, I'm hazy on this part.

  Friend of mine has a pretty fair O'scope.  Guess we could look at the
current across a small ballast resistor in series with the coil primaty
as a fct of the points opening.
