Can't wear out a well maintained Volvo. While stationed in GB in 1988 we
bought
one through the military/diplomatic sales, a 740 GLE. We justed traded it for a
1991 940 Wagon. Nothing wrong with it but it was 10 years old and had a
standard
transmission and my wife was tired of shifting. We used it as our daily family
car, to tow the MGs when needed. Buying it was pretty neat as well. Part of
the
deal was a trip to the factory in Sweden which included an overnight ride on a
ferry boat and a stay at a hotel.
The next day we get to the factory and on the showroom floor was our car and
only
one more. A factory rep went through each and every page of the owners book.
We
then test drove the car on the factory track, took a tour of the factory and had
lunch in the workers dining room. After this we were on our own, I wish I had
paid attention on the route we had taken to the factory. All the street names
looked like this to me "qwedrtgbmyuoph" street. Luckily a taxi driver was kind
enough to lead us to our hotel, and would not take payment. Upon arrival in GB
I took the nothing to declare
lane and was promptly chased down by the customs police, I forget to declare the
car. They were understanding about the whole matter, who would try and sneak a
Volvo in.
