Hi all,

Me again. <G> Well I'm almost ready to put the carbs back on the car,
figured out how the linkage works and was quite suprised that I actually
assembled the choke assembly on each carb the correct way round - believe me
it's confusing if you decide to completely disassemble the removable spring
loaded mechanism (carb body to jet) assembly. There are *no* good diagrams
on this in any manual and I have the Haynes SU Manual, Bentley MGB, Haynes
MGB, the *orig* SU/Butec factory manual (supplied by Bill) and about 10
other MGB books! Good job I took a roll of film disassembling these carbs! I
didn't need the pics in the end but if I'd got stuck it would have been
useful.

Anyways, I have one small problem. I have the jets centered correctly
however one of the carbs pistons moves down more quickly and with a louder
clack than the other one - not by very much, but a 'little' bit. Is this a
result of a) Piston Spring Tension difference between the two, b) some
dashpot-piston and or dashpot to carb body sealing issue? c) wear in one of
the dashpots or wear on the piston mating surface? I guess it could be all
three - I'm guessing 'c'. What with the not-so-hot casting of these carbs it
may have been like that from the factory - who knows!?

I've sanded, lightly, the bottom of each dashpot and where it fits to the
carb body (using a small file per Lawrie's video), and they seal much better
than before (I can't believe how 'roughcast' these little carbs are!) but
there's still this issue. I'm not sure if it will affect things greatly but
some feedback would be good.

Cheers,
Neil.
