<G> I don't think the engine would have started. There weren't any
pistons, plugs, carbs, distributor and the head was off as well. <G> In
fact the only thing left was the starter motor! <G> Glad I didn't take
that out! That was next on the list. 

But being serious, obviously if you try this make sure the car can't
start! Remove plugs, take cap off distributor etc. Also make sure you
block the fuel line to the carbs otherwise the fuel pump will attempt to
push fuel out to atmosphere (should block it if you take the carbs off
anyway and disconnect battery, I temporarily reconnected mine of course
to try this). I've basically stripped the entire motor - in car - to
make it easier to lift out by myself.

One other item of interest, you can't remove the harmonic balancer in
car - unless you lift the motor off it's mounts. It's fouled by the
steering rack. I'll leave removing that till the motor is out, I've
already loosened it off so no probs.
