Bosch makes two types of Coils. With and without resistors. They are usually
labelled xyz-R for ones equipped with resistors. You can't get Lucas Coils
anymore in Australia (at least easily) so I went with a Bosch GT40-R which
is half the weight and size of a Sports Coil and puts out the same 40KV.
Only bad thing is, it doesn't look like an original coil. I can live with
that as my GT isn't entered in shows. IMO Bosch bits always looks stronger,
better designed. Just compare a set of Bosch points and a set of Lucas
points for the MGB distributor and you'll see what I mean.
Another thing, the GT40 runs cool, whereas the old Lucas types are oil
filled (according to parts supplier) - correct? So these things get
monstrously hot. Not so with the GT40 as it is a new design and doesn't use
oil to cool it. Anything that produces less heat is welcome in my car! It's
too damn hot here anyways!!! <G>
