Just a quick question to you restoration types. :) I remember a thread
months back discussing painting different types of metal. The consensus
appeared to be prime steel and not to prime cast iron. I am concerned if I
prime the steel engine components (ie tappet covers, timing cover etc) and
do not prime the block/head - at the same time, there will be significant,
visible tonal difference between the two metals due to the porosity of the
cast iron. Will I do some harm priming cast iron?? So far I've had great
success using a mix of Penetrol and Primer/Top Coat on the steel parts. I'll
have some pics on the web soon.
Can someone clear this up for me? I've already primed and painted a number
of steel and aluminium parts using a combo of std Enamel Primer and Etch
Primer (for the Aluminium) and these have turned out great. I'd just like
the colour to be the same across the metals. Picky? You betcha. <G>
Hopefully it will be worth it. :) (for the five minutes before it starts
throwing oil around again ;)) <G>)
