If you are using the original  fuel pump, it works with contacts which can
stick at odd times.  The immediate fix is to bang on the pump with a
screwdriver handle, freeing up the points.  Long range fix is new points,
new original-type pump, or replacement centrifugal pump with pressure
regulator(my choice!)
