The previous response was correct, there were some 2600 imported into
the States as a 1974 1/2 model, and as such, are one of, if not the
rarest of U.S. spec MG's. They were withdrawn from the US market, many
believe, so there would be no competition for the TR7 coupe, "shape of
things to come" which was designed specifically for U.S. consumption.

That aside, they are common in England, being produced until all
production ceased. I bought mine about 10 years ago, a horrible dark
yellow that new parents will find familiar. It has been repainted a dark
blue, & about 5 years ago treated to a V-8 & numerous other changes. It
is one of the all time most comfortable drivers MG built, & lowering it
to CB specs provided the handling to match.

In our MG Club of about 200 members, there a 7, 1974 1/2
GT's-Washington, DC, a disproportionate number.

They are sought after by V8 converters who wish to approximate the
Factory MGBGTV8, as the Factory never made a roadster until Rover
brought out the RV8 in the early 90's.

Jim Stuart.
