I agree that you need to ascertain the source of this crankcase pressure.
Just blocking off the vent hole is not going to solve the underlying
problem. I would also study the crankcase breather system to make sure it
was correctly configured and operating properly. Since the engine is a
different year than the car, it is possible (even likely) that parts of two
incompatible systems are kludged together in an ineffective manner.
