Typical. There's no presure on it as the cap is off. That's a
trick on the road if you start to have a leaking hose, pump,
etc. After the engine has cooled down, unscrew the cap to the
safety notch. This releases the pressure in the system and leak
stops or reduces significantly.
1) Run the engine with no coolant for a 10-15 seconds to seat
the seal before adding coolant. If the engine is cold to start
with, no damage will be done.
2) Unless you need freeze protection below zero degrees F, then
use 30% antifreeze. A 30% solution will cool better. Even below
zero the coolant will not freeze solid. It turns to mush though,
and the water pump can't move it. That's not a problem if the
car is NOT driven in the winter.
