This weekend I had a great drive. The wavy speedo needle really has come to a
stable pointer! Thanks for all advises.
At the end of the ride I checked to lights and got trapped by King Lucas
himself: Only the main beams were on.
No sidelights, no rear lights, no gauge illumination. So as all cabling was
connected and the switch itself behaved not correctly, my conclusion is the
light switch has to be replaced.
Earlier I have had a short in this circuit, where the switch had to carry a
very high current. The wire to the rheostat was fully burnt then. So I assume
the switch has come the end of its life.

Any hints what the easiest way is to remove the switch body from the dash?
