Thanks to the list for quite nicely telling me I don't know how to do a
tranny swap :)

The 3-synchro went back in, and worked fine. Now the whole car is stripped
for paint, so we'll see which tranny I put back in. A 5-speed conversion is
my goal though.

I am just catching up to this thread.  And, don't know the beginnings of it.
However, I have a 4-synch o.d. trans in my '66.  Only changes needed were a
"bump out" for the starter, and to cut out a section of the tunnel over the
shifter.  I don't remember exactly what I did.  But, seems to me I used a
section of the tunnel from the '69 I scrapped a few years ago after
stripping all parts from it.  I then screwed the new piece in place & bent
the shifter boot retaining ring to fit the shape.  Looks & works fine.  If
anyone thinking of doing this wants jpegs, let me know.  I'll send them
off-list.
