speedo lubrication

DO NOT use motor oil on the cable end to lube the speedo. I changed my cable
and used 10W-40 and for the first couple days the speedo worked like new. No
bouncing at any speed and good calibration too. Then it got hot. The speedo
then decided to go full scale at any speed above about 20. I figure some of
the oil worked its way into the rotating disk, and changed it's balance
radically. This lasted about 2 weeks. On the day I was to R and R the
speedo, the thing starting working again..

This was right after a very hot day (OK hot for the NW is about 90!!), so I
surmise the oil must have then flowed off the disk. But because of the
speedo pegging at speed, the spring now seems to have lost a little shape
and the calibration is about 10 mph or so off at 50.
