Hi Bert,

I have had this similar behaviour with my '66 Ford Cortina 1500 long ago.
The metal mechanics of the starter were broken (in Dutch gebroken).

At these days it was easy to go to the scrapyard and find a replacement 
type.
Be careful to continue like this.
You might damage the starter gears and that's a costy repair!
