Almost Happy New Year!!
My son and I picked up my friend's +4 today and as I wrote before are
doing the hydraulics. From your responses I gather the rear drums are
from a Big Healey. Can anyone tell me why the drum is held on on with 4
recessed huge screws and 4 1/4" hex head bolts? Seems to be a bit of
overkill! The large screws seemed to have been "spiked" (punched to
flare out so as to lock in place) and cut off.......???? If these were
fitted at the works, why cut them? The only way we could figure out the
method used to that was to attached the drum to the hub with the 1/2
shaft off the car, punch the ends, and then slide the 1/2 shaft into the
tube and align the splines w/ the gears while sliding the drum over the
brake shoes. Seems like a lot of work. My Bugeye's drums are held on
w/ only one grub screw. Does one use the drum as a hub puller?

just curious,

Dave
