I just went to Chevy Duty to buy the bedwood installation manual.  
Someone told me that the 47-51 models had 9 boards and I checked some 
pics (not great ones)and it proved true.

But, on the chevy duty site, they ask you which setup you want: 
either 8 boards or 9 - for the 47-51 3100s.

I have a 51 3100.  What was stock?
