Just thought some of you may want to know. I had the hinge pocket
and the hinge mounting block replaced on my 57 chev suburban. I
used repair panels from Chevy Duty and, I have to say, they look and
work great. Of course, a credit to my bodyman who made it all look
factory new (I wasn't about to try it in such an important location as
the door hinges). The Chevy Duty parts - 2 of them - a hinge pocket
"face" for the bottom door pillar drivers side and a new (I call it) hinge
mounting block inside the bottom of the drivers door, seem like
excellent quality. I paid dearly to have it done right the first time - $600
- expecting that I will NEVER let mud build up in that hinge pocket
again so it should be;) a one time fix. He cut the door from the inside
to get at the mounting block. He also had to re weld all the spot welds
on the door that had been tweaked from years of stress. There's no
other rust to tend to and that is great given the old subs propensity
for rusty fender legs and quarter panels.
I also had the gas tank cleaned for $60 and now I'm ready to fire the
old girl up for the first time since 1968. I'll keep ya'll posted.
