I'm having a bugger of a time finding some replacement dry air filter
elements for my '50 (to fit in the stock housing). I cleaned up the
original elements (made of spun aluminum) and they are falling apart (I know
some of the aluminum shards will get sucked into the engine if I use them).
Chevy Duty discontinued their replacement (I was told it was a paper type
replacement). The Filling Station - nope. Jim Carters - nope. Napa -
nope. Car Quest - nope. K&N has the right size, but they're $50 per and I
need two. I've found lots of original ones (cars are the same as trucks up
to '53) but they have been wasted too. Any sources or suggestions? My last
resort is to sandwich foam in as a replacement to the spun aluminum, but
that seems cheesy.

Thanks,
Allen in Seattle

You've done your homework on the engine & rebuild parts (also, convenient
that you have a reduced price source for their source). IOW, I'd go ahead
with the acquisition. AFA putting the 350 in the '50, others on the list
could better answer that one.
