According to the book, Chevrolet Pickups 1946-1972 by author John Gunnell.
John discusses the changes made for '54, and goes on to say- "Effective Oct.28
1954, these same trucks were carried over as first series 1955 models. The only
real change made at this time involved a switch to an open driveshaft, replacing
the old torque-tube type."
This by the way is a great book, but reading it gave me a shock when I
realized that a factory 4 wheel drive '68 1/2 ton panel truck I once owned was
one of only 59 made! I sold it about 15 yrs. ago for $1,000.00 I'm still kicking
myself. (no it wasn't Napco, it was GM with Dana running gear) -Jeff
