Carry a small squirt can of gas along and the next time it happens, after
the engine cools down some, squirt some gas into the carb and put the air
cleaner cover back on.  Try starting it.  If it starts and runs for a
second or two, the problem is in the fuel system.  If it doesn't start, it
doesn't have a spark.  Start checking along those lines.  Electric problems
can come and go depending on temperature too.

If the engine has gas, spark, and compression, it almost has to start.
