I had the same problem with my little Harbor Freight Sandblaster I was using
#3
blasting sand it's used for rough blasting. I went to a finer blasting sand
# 4 and it
worked real well and didn't rough up the metal so much. The #3 has to many
sharp edges and it makes it stick together
