Hey everyone,

Just aquired a turbo 400 in real good shape and I'm gonna put it in my '79
silverado in place of the 700R4 until I can rebuild the 700R4. I was giving
the tranny a thorough inspection and filter change and found a single wire
connection on the outside of the case going to a solenoid on the rear of the
valve body. What is this? Is it a converter lockup or? I think the tranny is
a 78, but not sure. The tranny has been behind a 600 horse 383 for some 4000
or so miles, seen 20-30 12 second quarter runs and general abuse without this
connection hooked up. If this is a lockup which wasn't hooked up, could the
tranny have been damaged? The fluid looks awesome with a spotless pan.

Also, My bud that ran this tranny in his car said the only problem he had
with the tranny was that it would never wind out past 5 grand before
upshifting to second (engine's built to turn 7500). My 350 is only built to
turn 6500. A 5 grand shift into second gear would be fine by me, but if this
is a problem I could remedy while I have the tranny on the bench, I'd like to
fix it.

This free turbo 400's a funny thing. Turns out only short wide pickups with
big blocks got the 400's. That means driveline's for a short wide with turbo
400 are rare as chickens teeth. This free trannie's costing me a $200
driveline. Atleast I don't have to dick with that stupid TV cable on the
700R4 for a while though. Thanks,

Dustin
