Hello to all:
Since I'm new to the Oletrucks mail, I'd like to introduce myself. and tell
a little about my projects. First, my name is David Clark. I was in the
graduating class of '59 in Rossville, GA. I live with my wife Diane and
our 19 year old son Chad here in Midwest City, OK; a suburb of Oklahoma
City. I'm currently employed at Tinker Air Force Base here in OKC.
We have a 57 Chevy short big window that we've been puttering around with
for about 6 or 7 years. The 57 is subframed with a 79 Trans-Am clip and
fitted with a Z-28 disc brake rear-end . The engine is a 350 4 bolt
coupled to a 700R-4 transmission. The braking system uses a standard 57
master cylinder feeding a Midland booster mounted underneath the floor on
the driver's side. The battery is also mounted underneath the floor on the
passenger side. allowing the firewall to be smoothed and uncluttered. A
fuel tank from a 89 full size Blazer is mounted underneath the frame at the
rear. A keyless tilt column from a 78 Chevy van allows the ignition switch
to be mounted in the original hole in the dash. So far I've replaced the
cab corners and hinge pockets, filled the old gas filler hole, and filled
numerous holes in the floor and firewall. My goal is to keep the outside
original looking adding a nice set of wheels. Inside will keep the original
appearance except for a late model 60/40 GM bench seat and an in-dash A/C
unit...haven't figured that one out yet! The body, fenders, bed and other
parts are in primer. ....assembly required.
I also enjoy restoring old gas pumps and other service station items. I
would be happy to chat with anyone having similar interest, exchange ideas,
and answer any question concerning the 57 and old Chevy trucks in general.
