If you are talking about the lube in the steering box 
(south end of the steering column) the proper lubricant 
is GM part #1052182.  Anything thinner tends to leak 
past the seals in the box.  Anything thicker (such as 
wheel bearing grease) would not flow properly.

    I would like to change the grease thats  in the steering column
mechanism
it's caked in there, the operators manual states, remove cap on control box
and fill box with soft smooth grease....Do they mean like wheel bearing
grease.
