Voltage does not make a difference in most ammeters because they consist
of a moving coil meter movement (milli-ammeter) with a certain amount of
resistance and a parallel shunt with a much lower amount of resistance.
The ratio of the resistance between the meter's coil and the shunt stays
the same no matter what the voltage.

Is an ammeter from a 6 volt charging system different from an ammeter
from
a 12 volt system?

Ohms law says the amperage would be twice on a 6 volt system correct?

Also I have a temp gauge with good capilary tube from a '54 if anyone is
interested. Contact me off list.

Thanks,
