Well, diagnose first.  Have somebody else slowly turn the wheel from
side to side, going all through the play but just barely moving the
wheels, while you get on the ground and watch the various components and
see where the play is coming form.  There are several ball joint type
connections, and any of them worn will cause a lot of free play.  On my
truck it was worn tie rod ends.  There is an adjustment for the steering
box itself, but that would be a last resort after all the other parts
are seen to be in good shape.
