For those of you who have been frequenting the new Internet Relay Chat
resource we have set up, there has been a change to the server info and you
are probably wondering why you cant connect. My cable company decided I was
using too much bandwidth and made me shut the server down. Fortunately,
there are other servers on the same network which means we can still use the
channel. Use irc.newnet.net instead of irc.darksociety.com and you should
get in fine. The instructions below are the complete ones we have posted
here before.

Thanks!

There has been some interest in having an Internet Relay Chat channel set up
for real time discussion of our old Chevy truck hobby and since I am already
an IRC Server operator, I have volunteered to create the channel and set the
whole thing up. Its now up to you. I will spell out the way to utilize this
resource and I sure hope to see people popping in from time to time. Since
this whole thing began totally unrelated to trucks, my nickname on IRC is
JumpMan (after the old early 80's Atari video game). I would encourge you to
choose the name you go by on the email list so we can readily relate to your
project as we do now. Heres how it works:

1) go to www.mirc.com and follow the Download mIRC link and get the program.
Its freeware and doenst ever have to be registered if you choose not to.

2) Install the program. I chose to have an icon on my desktop so I use it
more often. Its a small program and takes almost no resources.

Once installed, go to the menu items at the top (like any other windows
program) and choose FILE/OPTIONS then add a new server. there is an ADD
button on the upper right.

Under Description, add something like 'OleTrucks IRC'
Under IRC Server add: irc.newnet.net
Under Port: leave it at 6667
Under Group: leave blank
no password is required

Press the button that says 'Connect to IRC Server'

In a short while, the status window will show that you are connected. But,
you need to join the channel so in the STATUS window, type this: /join
#oletrucks

You should see @Chanserv and @JumpMan in that channel. I am JumpMan,
Chanserv is the services bot that helps run the channel. Its part of the
services provided by the network. To talk, you simply type in the text line
that is below the channel window. Everyone in the channel will see what you
type. Since my job on IRC is to help beginner IRC users, I wont be the least
bit offended or annoyed at stupid questions, so please think of me as
someone there to help.

The channel is open 24/7 and its hard to tell who all will be there and
when. But its an awesome way for us all to talk in real time and get to know
each other. Ackward at first maybe, but you may very well grow to love the
way it works. I also want to say that if I do not respond right away, its
not because I am ignoring you, its because I have other things I am doing
(like working on my trucks) but I am on cable so I am present in the channel
alot.

I encourage all of those who are even skeptical to try this and see what
they think. It will bring us all just that much closer together in our
common interests.
