Thanks.  Luckily, the PO had the title, so I'm totally legal now with my own
title and new registration.  I was only going for authenticity as far as the
VIN/door plate was concerned.  I guess it's a lost cause...

Athough, the resource William provided might be able to help me link the
engine number to the VIN

The number you have looks like the engine serial number which was commonly
used to register the vehicle.  There is no way of getting a door plate
number correct by guessing because it contains the actual production number
of your truck as well as the plant it was produced in.
