Am I mistaken or didn't the Vortec start in pickups/Suburbans/Tahoes in
1996?

In my humble opnion the Vortec is a better engine. My 98 Suburban has more
power and gets better mileage than my 94 pickup. Both 350's with 4 speed
auto and 2WD.
