I'd bet the easiest upgrade for the rear is one from a first series 55,
since its open, but designed for a very similar frame. I put the rear from
a '73 Chevelle wagon under my GMC. Width worked out great, and being from a
wagon it had bigger brakes with finned drums. It also has 3.08 gears, which
fit well with my plans for the truck. Had to have the coil type brackets
removed and pads welded on. Think about the brake lines and emergency brake
cables as you do this... Mine took some creativity for both.
Far as I know you could use either bell housing, but I've no experience
swapping motors newer than about 1980, so if someone else says different you
should listen to them.
