Who ever told you to use the pre '81 10 bolt GM rear is exactly right. This is
the best fitting, most versatile rear you can get. Most have approx 61 in face
to face measurement which is todays modern wheels. The later Camaro will also
work [metric] but it is not as heavy duty. but many came with disk brakes and
in most places are more available.
I am using a '78 Z28 in my '54AD with 15 x 8 on center wheels with 9.50
rubber and every thing fits in fenders with no mods to the body.
