My understanding is that a '54 has a torque tube, and a '55 1st has an open
driveline. That should clarify what this truck is.
I drive a '55 1st with a 4-speed with 3.08 gears in the rear, and very
rarely do I use the granny gear. If I want to move real slow it makes
sense, otherwise its of no real value the way I drive.

Group: I went to the Aurora pull and save today.
There is a well picked over 54 or 55 1st series. The
engine is gone but the 4 spd is still there, bolted up
to the torque tube. Is it worth picking up for sixty
eight dollars? The shift lever is missing, how
difficult is it to find a replacement? It also has
two verticle angles bolted on to the drivers side just
in front of the rear fender. This appears to be for
mounting a spare tire carrier. It does not look like
a item that an owner would have installed. Any
insight is appreciated.
