I just installed a Hurst shifter on the Saginaw 4-speed in my '51 3100
and I am wondering if the 1 - 2 shifter lever (the lever that is
conected to the shift rod on the side of the transmission case) was in
neutral when you adjusted the shifter rod (if you disconnect the shift
rod from the rod you should be able to easily move it by hand between
1st and 2nd gear and neutral should be very evident in between them - if
not you may have an internal transmission problem). Otherwise there
might be a problem with the shifter itself. This would be evedent if
you disconnect the 1 - 2 gear shift rod and it still won't shift. I did
have a problem with mine going in to 1 - 2 when I first installed it,
but it seams to have worked itself out. I've adjusted it a couple of
times now since I have been screwing with bellhousings so it goes pretty
quick now ;-) - especially now that I just installed a 4 post lift in
my garage! Good luck.
